Char Crop Marketing and Conservation Center was established at South Khatiamari Taltala Bazar under Fazlupur Union of Fulchhari upazila in the district on Wednesday. An inaugural function organized by Making Markets Work for the chars (M4C) project being implemented by SKS Foundation was also held at the bazar on Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Director (DD) of the department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Krishibid Md. Belal Uddin addressed the function and formally inaugurated the center as the chief guest and upazila agriculture officer Md. Mintu Miah and district market investigator Shah Moazzem Hossain spoke at the event as the special guests while local union parishad chairman Md. Abu Hanif Pramanik presided over the inaugural ceremony. Earlier, a welcome speech and the objectives of the center were delivered by Hafizur Rahman Sheikh, intervention specialist of SKS-m4c project. Chandranath Gupta, Senior Intervention Officer, M4C -SKS Foundation, also spoke on the facilities of Crop Conservation Center and how the farmers can benefit from Crop Conservation Centre elaborately. DD of the DAE Md. Belal Uddin in his speeches said when the crops reach everyone's homes; the prices of the crops are low in the market. Farmers would be able to earn economic profit by selling the crops at higher prices after conserving it for a few days in the center, he added. The DD also termed the establishment of the center in the char as a good initiative for the char farmers of the union. Upazila agriculture officer in his speeches thanked the officials of M4C project and SKS Foundation for setting up the center considering the interest of the char farmers. Later, the chief guest formally inaugurated the center through cutting a red tape. Local elite, sub assistant agriculture officers of the DAE, and journalists attended the function.
