DITF to begin on New Year’s Day
The month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair, or DITF, is set to kick off in Dhaka’s Purbachal on the first day of next year.
The success of the ‘Anti-discrimination Student Movement’ will be featured in stalls at this year’s trade fair. The decision has been made at a meeting of the Export Promotion Bureau, or EPB, said the agency’s vice-chairman Anwar Hossain.
The country's largest product exhibition, DITF, is inaugurated every year with a spectacle at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center, or BCFEC, in Purbachal.
This will be the 29th edition of the fair, jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce and EPB, in 2025.
A dedicated corner named ‘Mugdho’ will be set up to honour of Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, who died in the mass movement, as well as to recognise the sacrifices made by students and the people during the anti-discrimination movement. This will also feature a photo exhibition.
The meeting was held to decide administrative and financial policies for the fair, the formation of subcommittees, the floor price of different types of stalls, pavilions, restaurants, and other lease works including the entry ticket for the event.
Like every year, law-enforcing agencies will be deployed to ensure security at the fair. Along with the fair secretariat and law-enforcing agencies, a total of 11 committees will operate the fair.
The EPB officials said entrepreneurs will be given priority in the allocation of stalls at the fair.
In addition to the commercial stalls, a number of stalls will be reserved for women, people with disabilities, disadvantaged ethnic communities, cottage industries, weavers, textiles and handicrafts.
