SEU Hosts “Atmo Tyager Chetonay Agamir Bangladesh”
Southeast University (SEU) organized a commemorative event titled “Building Tomorrow’s Bangladesh with the Spirit of Sacrifice” to honor the martyrs and injured victims of the anti-discrimination student movement, including four martyrs from the university on 23 November 2024, Saturday.
The program was held in the university’s Multipurpose Hall. Mr. A.F. Hasan Arif, Advisor to the Interim Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, graced the event as the Chief Guest, while SEU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, presided over the program.
Barrister Sheikh Mahdi, Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh attended the event as the Special Guest. Mr. Rezaul Karim, Chairman of the Southeast University Board of Trustees, attended as an Honorable Guest.
Other notable speakers included Arif Sohel, Member Secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; Rifat Rashid, Executive Committee Member of the Movement; Tuhin Khan, Writer and Member of the Jatiya Nagoric Committee; and Syed Abdullah, Activist and Political Analyst. Professor Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Southeast University, and Professor Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences and Convener of the Event Organizing Committee, also addressed the audience with inspiring words. Family members of the martyrs were present at the event and were honored with mementos on behalf of the university.
In their speeches, the distinguished guests reflected on the sacrifices of those who contributed to the anti-authoritarian movement and emphasized building a future Bangladesh free from inequality. They urged the student community to take a vigilant role in upholding justice and ensuring that the sacrifices of the martyrs do not go in vain.
The program was also attended by the Registrar, Treasurer, Deans, Department Heads, faculty members, administrative staff, and students. The program concluded with a vibrant cultural event presented by SEU’s cultural teams.
