Cheques distribution to 285 chronic patients begins in Gaibandha

Cheques distribution to 285 chronic patients at the initiative of the department of Social Services (DSS) began yesterday aimed at helping them bear treatment expenditure. An inaugural function organized by DSS was also held at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here on Monday afternoon with deputy director(DD) of the DSS here Md. Fazlul Haque in the chair. DC Abdul Matin attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and ADC (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat was present as the special guest while social services officer (Registration) Mizanur Rahman Mollick was the moderator. Speaking on the occasion DC Abdul Matin said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been conducting many welfare programmes for the sick people including the distressed ones to help them get rid of their sufferings. The DC also suggested the patients to expense this grant against their treatment purposes properly in a bid to come round soon from the diseases. Later, DC Abdul Matin formally distributed the cheques of TK 5 lac as grant to 10 patients of Gaibandha Municipality as the chief guest. The rest 275 patients would get their cheques of grant from the offices of the DSS, said an official. Each of the patients received TK 50,000 from the department for the treatment against six diseases-cancer, kidney, lever-cirrhosis, stroke, by- born heart disease and Thalassemia. They also expressed their gratefulness to the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for standing beside them with grant. Assistant director of the DSS Md. Kamrul Islam Sarker and other staff of the department including the journalists were present on the occasion.
