Massive Rally in Berlin to Protest Student Killings in Bangladesh

In response to the indiscriminate attacks on protesting students in Bangladesh, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of students, journalists, and civilians, expatriate Bangladeshis organized a massive rally in Berlin, Germany.

A large number of Bangladeshi students studying at various universities in different cities of Germany, expatriate Bangladeshis, and conscious German citizens gathered to show solidarity with the ongoing student movement in Bangladesh.

People from all professions, regardless of political affiliations, participated in this protest meeting.

On Wednesday, 24th July, even before the pre-announced program started at 5 PM in front of the German Chancellery in central Berlin, hundreds of students gathered and filled the area with slogans. The rally officially began with a minute of silence in honor of the quota martyrs once the area was packed with people. Many shared accounts of the suffering of persecuted families back home. The voices of children and teenagers also echoed with tales of oppression, and the protesters recited poems.

The protestors displayed posters, placards, banners, and festoons featuring images of those killed in the quota movement, and waved the national flag while chanting slogans. They strongly demanded an immediate end to the attacks and killings of students.

At the rally, ordinary students demanded that those who attacked the protesting students and those who ordered the attacks be brought to justice in an international court without delay. They also strongly protested the shutdown of the internet and other communication channels in Bangladesh.

The protestors demanded the withdrawal of all false cases against the activists, the lifting of the curfew, and the withdrawal of the army. Additionally, they called for the resignation of the government for its failure to maintain law and order.
