Midwives are engaged in service work
Executive director(ED) of UNFPA Dr. Natalia Kanem and undersecretary of the United Nations said since midwives are engaged in service work so they deserve respect That is why, we salute them.
She made the remarks while she was exchanging her views with the midwives of Santal Health Project at Sapmara union under Gobindaganj upazila in the district very recently as the chief guest.
She was also briefed saying that institutional and safe deliveries had been ensured for the pregnant women of Santal Community.
As many as 495 institutional and safe deliveries had been done so far at the initiative of the project. For this, the child and mother mortality rate reduced considerably.
She was also briefed about the reproductive health of the adolescent girls of the Santal Community. The girls of the community have become very conscious about their reproductive health after introducing the project in the concerned area.
She also heard the speeches of the staff of the project and its officials and urged them to be more serious and professional to attain the cherished goals of the project and help the government achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030.
Mr Pio Smith, UNFPA Asia-Pacific regional director, and Kristine Blokhus, UNFPA Bangladesh representative accompanied her during her visits.
Earlier, The Santal men and women received her at the village following their cultural rules like rendering songs, performing dances and sprinkling flower petals.
Notably that some three Santal girls took institutional training on midwife with the financial support of United Nations and after completion of the training, they joined the project as midwife in a bid to provide help and assistance to the pregnant women of their own community to ensure safe delivery institutionally.
The midwives are so much happy to do the job with project.
