Secretariat’s building number 7 fire brought under control

A fire broke out in building number 7 of the Secretariat in the city early hours of today and was brought under control this morning.

"The fire was brought under control at 8:05am today after around six hours of frantic efforts," Md Shajahan Shikder, media officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense told BSS today.

 The cause behind the fire has not yet been identified, he said. Initially, eight fire engines worked to douse the flames; later, 11 more units joined the efforts.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence reached the spot two minutes after the fire broke out at 1.52am today.

Firefighter Sohanur Rahman Nayon of Tejgaon Fire Station was killed when a truck hit him in front of the Secretariat, Shajahan said.

Military, police, and the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) have been assisting the fire fighting units to douse the flames.


Two platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed at the site after the fire broke out, said a short message from the BGB.
