International women’s Day-2025 celebrated in Gaibandha’s  Fulchhari Char

The International Women’s Day-2025 was celebrated in the chars of Fulchhari upazila in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today in a befitting manner with a call to ensure the overall development of the charwomen to build discrimination free beautiful Bangladesh. 

This year’s theme of the day was ‘Rights Equality, Empowerment /Development of Women and Girls'.

Marking the day, SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non –government development organization, also chalked out the programmes in hard to reach chars under Fulchhari upazila of the district under Community based Resilience Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) project funded by Manusher Jonno Foundation. 

At noon, a discussion meeting was held on the premises of Char Fulchhari Govt. Primary School under Fulchhari upazila in the district with member of upazila Zica Committee Akhtara Banu in the chair. 

Moderated by project coordinator Lovely Khatun, the function was also addressed among others by Solar project manager Hasina Parvin, communication officer of the organization Prodip Roy, members of women group formed by the CREA project Lovely Begum, Hamida Begum and Jahanara Begum. 

The speakers in their speeches said Fulchhari union under Fulchhari upazila  is located at disaster prone area of the upazila as flood, severe cold wave and cyclone hit the union every year and create untold sufferings to the people. 

They urged all to work together to bring the backward char people particularly the female ones under mainstream of development of the country in a bid to change their lots and socio-economic condition.
 
They also demanded of the government to give the recognition of the char women as farmers, to pay fair wages to the women labours, to involve the underprivileged char women in various state-run facilities.
 
A large number of teenagers, women and people of different professions participated in the discussion meeting holding play-cards, festoons, banners inscribed with various slogans regarding international women’s day. 

The daylong program ended through holding the competition on riding by-cycle to the girls.  A number of girls and adolescents coming from different chars of the upazila took part in competition.
