Arrow, bow competition for Santal people held in Gobindaganj

An arrow and bow competition for the Santal men and women including the adolescents was held on the ground of Shahid Shyamol Mongal Ramesh Primary School under Shapmara union of Gobindaganj upazila this noon on the Independence Day-2025. 

Sahebganj Bagdafarm Bhumi Uddhar Sangram Committee(SBBUSC), Jatiyo Adibashi Parishad, Adibashi-Bangali Sanghati Parishad, Samajik Sangram Parishad, Jana Uddyog and ALRD (Association for Land Reform and Development) jointly organized the ceremony in a bid to display the heritage and culture of indigenous society.

In this regard, a discussion was also held on the school ground this morning around 11 AM with Philimon Baske, president of SBBUSC in the chair. 

General secretary of Hindu, Bouddha, Khristan oiykyo parishad Goura Pahari, adibashi leaders Pricilla Murmu, British Saren, Sufal Hembrom, Suchitra Murmu Trisha addressed the function among others. 

The speakers in their speeches said the indigenous people of Bangladesh are peaceful people. They want to live independently and peacefully in the country but a section of influential people; particularly the Bengali ones always oppress the ethnic community and grab their land forcedly.

They also demanded of the government to return their human rights and ancestral land.

Later, the competition was held on the school ground where a large number Santal men and women including their children participated in. 

Through the competition the technics to operate arrow and bow displayed, sources said.
