Jatiya Party central office in Dhaka set on fire
A group of people have set fire to Jatiya Party’s central office in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area, amid growing tensions between members of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and the political party.
Following the incident which occurred around 7:30pm on Thursday, Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, wrote on his Facebook post: “The ouster of the national traitors is now certain.”
According to Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Rashed bin Khalid, two units of the fire service were dispatched after a call was made around 7:40pm.
Jatiya Party General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu told: “The whole nation is seeing what they are doing to us. Live videos on Facebook and media, everything is happening out in the open. I don’t want to say anything else.”
Additional Deputy Commissioner for Ramna Division Jewel Rana told: “We are here. Students came and set fire to the Jatiya Party office. The fire is now under control. But a lot of students are still gathered here.”
“There have been no casualties here,” he added.
Following the incident, Hasnat wrote on his Facebook post: “These national traitors from the Jatiya Party have assaulted our brothers in Bijoynagar with weapons; they are parading with arms. This time, the ouster of these national traitors is certain."
Later, he edited the post and wrote: “We will start a rally from Raju Sculpture towards Bijoynagar at 8:30pm. National traitors must be wiped out.”
